Storthes Hall 5 Ealandians 2 (KO 1.00pm) See above
Lower Hopton 0 Wortley 0 (4-2 Wort)
A major success for Wortley who managed to shut out for 120 minutes the side eighth in the WRCA Premier Division. Once again Wortley splendid defence was unbeatable but the success owes much to the all round teamwork and the high tempo at which Wortley are capable of playing.
The penalty shoot out went something like this: -
Sean Stephenson slotted home the first for Wortley but Ben Danby made what has become a trademark save from the first spot kick for Hopton (1-0 Wort). Barry Danby bagged the second and Hopton scored their first (2-1). Dave Thirlow coolly made it 3-1 but the third Hopton penalty was successful and thus 3-2 after the third round of kicks. Up came Curt Lewis to drill the ball home but the fourth Hopton penalty was off target and sheer delight for Roy Naylor and his team that won the shoot out 4-2.
Gildersome Spurs 3 Denholme Utd 0
A comfortable win but Spurs made hard work of it. A goal from Johnny Kitchen in the first half gave Gildersome a 1-0 half time lead but Spurs were guilty of wasting innumerable chances. The game was finally put to bed in the 75th minute when Matty Moon made it 2-0 before Matty added a third close to the final whistle.
Leeds University OB 1 Heckmondwike Town 3
University created enough good chances to win this game outright but that failure to convert and the dismissal of Ryan Parker in the first half, when they led 1-0 from a Lee Kemp strike, were cited as the main reasons for the defeat. Heckmondwike took their chances well and their athletic keeper impressed. Ht the score was 1-1 but, even allowing for the two second half goals netted by Heckmondwike, University still felt they should have got something from the game. This was especially the case as Heckmondwike Town were themselves reduced to 10 men during the second half.
Knaresborough Town 4 Shire Academics 0
West Yorkshire League Knaresborough were too strong for a spirited Shire who enjoyed the experience and welcome from the home club. Little doubt that Shire would have liked to have a consolation goal to their credit and they felt 3-1 may just have been the scoreline reflecting more accurately the way the game went.
WRCFA Challenge Trophy - Round 3
Gildersome Spurs Res 5 Featherstone Colliery Res 5
Well this was a roller coaster of a game. 0-2, 3-2, 3-4, 4-4ft, 5-4, 5-5. A superb display form Gildersome Spurs OB Res who beat 4th placed Featherstone from the West Yorks league Div 2. Mark Suffield, Andy Dickinson, Steve Wales, Daz Boot and Nick Burrett were among the goals for Gildersome with Steve and Daz both promoted from the third team. The along came the penalties. Andy Dickinson, Steve Wales and Nick Burrett all converted theirs in the 3-2 penalty lottery. Andy Spence was the man for the moment as he saved two of the pens for Spurs whilst a third was off target. Great cup tie but very bad for the nerves.
Crag Utd 3 Alwoodley OB Res 1
Ht 2-0 for Crag Utd but somehow Alwoodley never really got into the game despite some tidy passing. Mike Rawson netted the Alwoodley goal. Perhaps we will hear more from Alwoodley later.
East Leeds 0 Beeston St Anthony's Res 9
[think it was as grim as the final score suggests. Beeston are n fire this season and who can match them in this competition. Perhaps Bramley Juniors.
Bramley Juniors Res v3 Aimbry 1
Good, solid win for Bramley Jun Res against a Huddersfield Works league side. Scorers were Craig Saville, Josh Collier and Lee Poulter. Ht 0-0 suggests Bramley the fitter side but in-form Bramley still have something left in the tank.
CoHingham Juniors OB 4 Sherburn White Rose Res 1
A very good win for Collingham against this West Yorkshire Alliance Div 1 outfit. Could have been more they tell me with Collingham showing much more desire. Anthony Dyson, Chris Nembhard and Mark Gouland 2 were on target for Collingham.
Bramley Juniors 5 Albion Sports Res 0
No banana skins for Bramley and a good win against a side 4th in WRCA league Div 3.
East Ardslev Wdrs 1 Thornhill 2
Cracking display delivered by East Ardsley against the Wakefield League leaders. 0-1,1-1,1-2. Ardsley had a much better side out today than they have had in recent weeks. Scorer was Johnny Downey
Senior A
Huddersfield Amateur 2 Heckmondwike GSOB 2
Huddersfield d Amateur should have had this game sewn up by half time but only had a Gordon Pettifor goal to show for their troubles. Gordon added a second after the interval but possession is not enough. Oliver Rounding pulled on back with some 15 minutes to go and very, very late in the game Ash Gibson converted a penalty to glean a much need point for Heckmondwike that take them up to eighth. Hudd Amat drop one place to fourth.
Leeds Medics & Dentists 3 St Nicholas 0
See the Medics report that perfectly expresses the views of St Nicholas who had Dave Jordan in the nets today to cover for an emergency situation. Medics move up to third and as St Nicks say Medics wil be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. St Nicholas stay second to bottom.
Trinity OB 0 Stanningley OB 6
Stanningley were in command today with Trinity OB struggling with a long injury list and the absence of Stevie Travers. 1-0 half time but the floodgates opened in the second half with the injured players unable t respond to the questions asked by Stanningley who are now one point behind leaders Alwoodley with two games in hand. Trinity remain bottom but have played fewer games than those below them. Barry Frankland 3, Lee Coleman, John Darke with his first touch off the bench and Mickey Joyce with his first Stanningley goal make up a solid half dozen.
Senior B
FC Headingley 2 Leeds Medics & Dentists Res 2
Not an unexpected result between two well matched sides. The teams are now second and third respectively with Medics edging into second place on goal difference. FC Headingley slightly below strength today but they managed to go 1-0 down in the first half, in their opinion somewhat unluckily, to a first YOBL goal to Dave Emms an 18 years old student who has joined the club this season. Old Headingley then felt they were lucky to go 2-1 ahead with firstly Sam Jackson converting from a John Forrest long throw and secondly when Matty Raw was brought down and John Forrest converted the penalty. FC Headingley had three second half injuries to contend with and no surprise when Medics Res deservedly made it 2-2 with a strike from that scorer of crucial goals Chris Smith.
Old Batelians 6 St Bedes OB 2
Batelians are now five points ahead of Senior B and playing better or perhaps more consistently than for many campaigns. St Bedes played well today and, despite the defeat, the quality of football Bedes served up, on a superb surface, left Manager Colin Smith in no doubt they will improve their position in the league this season in comparison with their third to bottom in 08/09. Goals well spread are indicative of the excellent form of the Carlinghow Lane outfit with Rob Bordman 2, Richard Spinks, Craig Stephenson, Sam Newman and Mark Heseldin with the golden boots.
Division 1
Moortown OB 5 Bainbridge 2
Bainbridge were toothless this afternoon. A enjoyed a fair share of the possession but lacked penetration. Goals for Chris Fenton and Shahab Ali counted for Bainbridge. Moortown, who remain in second place one point and one game behind Wortley Res, were 4-1 ahead by half time being quick to punish Bainbridge defensive errors. Bainbridge did in fact take the lead but a mis-kick by the Bainbridge keeper from a back pass enabled Moortown to claw their way back into the game. Further goals from Michael James 2, Danny Blackburn and Robert Hill secured the points for Moortown.
Shadwell 1 Old Thornesians 3
Only one win from 4 games for Shadwell but for Thornes, who remain in fifth place, this was their fourth game without defeat that has seen them harvest three victories. Two goals netted today for left side midfielder Mark Bedford and one for Craig Roberts.
Western Juniors OB 4 Old Centralians 1
See the Western report
Wortley Res 3 Leeds Independent 0
Scoreline deceptive as this was a hard fought, competitive game of football with Independent playing their part well. Ht 2-0. Michael Walls with a rare goal, Gaz Martin on the score sheet as ever and the prolific Tom Bailey on song all hit the bull for Wortley.
Division 2
Farnlev Sports 1 East Leeds Trinity OB 1
Farnley ended their four goal losing streak with Adam Horner claiming a second half equaliser in a situation that many thought was an East Leeds own goal. The pitch was heavy and restricted the usually free flowing East Leeds football. A pity after all the hard work put in to improve the pitch made during the summer. Richard Burns had put East Leeds ahead with a strike from 18 yards some 20 minutes into the first half.
Gildersome Spurs OB III 2 Ealandians Res 4
Spurs young stars can take some satisfaction from yet another much improved performance today. However it was Ealandians who gained their second win of the season to put clear water between them and Shire Res and Heckmondwike Res. Helping to ease the Ealandians worries were young Mark Callaghan with 2, Ross Shirtliffe 1 and Rick Mollett (pen).
Heckmondwike GSOB Res 2 Beeston OB 3
Heckmondwike stormed into a 2-0 lead with goals on either side of half time from Christian Webster and Richard Smith. Eventually the spritely Beeston side took advantage of a tiring Heckmondwike and two goals for the scoring genius know as Damon Harder bagged two and John Mackey one. To give Beeston three valuable points in a thrilling Div 2 title chase. This was a much better Heckmondwike display and their first win cannot be too far away.
Old Modernians Res 3 Shire Academics Res 0
Modernians managed another clean sheet as Shire still seeks its first win. Only two goals conceded in the four games. Mods now 12 points out of 12 and putting pressure on leaders Bramley Juniors. See Mods news but a Stef Papa hat trick was the highlight.
Trinity OB Res 1 Grangefield OB 3
See Trinity news. Will contact Grangefield later.
Division 3
Colton Academicals 1 Colton Academicals Res 2
A game marred by the serious injury to Dave Stringer who went to hospital by ambulance with severe ligament damage. An injury he suffered only two seasons ago. Colton firsts took an early lead but two goals in five minutes from Matty Feaviour and Jimmy Farrar gave Colton Res a deserved win but somewhat hollow in view of the injury to Dave.
Heckmondwike GSOB III 0 Grangefield OB Res 3
Heckmondwike fight hard but Div 3 is not proving to be an easy option. Will contact Grangefield for their scorers late.
Leeds Independent Res 4 St Bedes OB Res 1
Independent joins Woodhouse and Colton Academicals Res on 13 points in joint second place, Indy played well according to Bedes Res who slip to fifth after dropping their first points of the campaign. Ht 1-0. 3-0. Gaz Hunter consoled with a pen for Bedes. Wonderful triple struck by Alan Barnes and a singleton for David Johnson for Independent.
Leeds Medics & Dentists IV 1 Wheelwright OB Res 2
"Our luck must change some time" seems to be the exasperated cry from the Leeds Medics camp as they again scorn chances created. Wheelwright led the way when it came to scoring. A 25 yard special from Ashley Flaker gave for the winners the lead. Andy Eaton restored parity to make it 1-1 at half time. The goal that gave Wheelwright all three points was notched by Jak Oldroyd.
Old Centralians Res 1 Wortley III 4
This scoreline does not reflect how difficult it was for Wortley to win this tremendous game. Ht 1-2. It was one of those games were the winning side were clinical in front of goal. The strikes came from Danny Purcell, Ash Birdsall 2 and Ian Lamb for the winners. See Cents news. Wortley now nine wins out of nine with William Hills suspending all betting. Wortley are a very, very good team and must be strong contenders for the Hodgson.
Old Collegians Res 3 Old Batelians Res 1
Collegians delighted to start the game with the same line-up as the side that beat Leeds Medics IV 2-0 last weekend. 3-0 half time and goals for John Livesey 2 and Elliott Barwick for the winners with Chris Porritt responding for the losers who remain fixed at the bottom of the division.
Division 4
Ealandians III 4 Colton Juniors 6
Colton Juniors were 4-1 ahead at half time and skipping past the Ealandians defence with ease. Not 50 in the second half when Ealandians staged a recovery by pulling back to 4-5 at one point. Young Jake Ramsden with a hat-trick for Colton Juniors, Chris Hick 2 and Josh Naylor. Await news of Ealandians scorers.
East Ardsley Wdrs Res 0 Bramley Jun OB Res 1
This latest success moves Bramley to joint second with Sandal Wanderers. Clearly this was hard, gruelling encounter between two superb Div 4 outfits with no quarter given. No goals in the first half. The winner came with 20 minutes to go from Shaun Proctor.
Huddersfield Amat III 1 Old Thornesians Res 7
Thornes go top of Div 4. You can hear the newspaper sellers. Read all about it. Another masterful display form Thornes against an Amateur III side that is finding Div 4 no easy assignment. Jimmy Taylor with his fourth hat-trick of the season, Ben Stakes, Jamie Whalley, Andy Ritchie and Mick White in his first outing since an horrendous injury last year.
Leeds City OB 1 Shadwell Res 1
Afraid not too much yet on this one. Shadwell scorer was, yet again, Darren Barry as Shadwell stay comfortably ensconced in mid-table. Leeds City drops one place to sixth.
Old Modernians III 3 Sandal Wdrs 2
Ht 1-0. Then 3-0 and Sandal then stage one of their special recoveries but fail to take a point and lose top spot in the league. Neil Mumby and Tom Harte on the ball for Sandal Wdrs but Duffy 2 and Robbie Wood wrapped up, if not that securely, the three points for Mods III who leap up to fifth.
Old Modernians IV 3 Colton Academicals III 1
First win of the season for Mods IV with Norrie Harmon and Chris O'Reilley among the scores. Colton are fighting bravely but a tough season to date.
Division 5
Old Batelians III 0 Leeds City OB Res 2
See the Leeds City Res report. They achieve what no one else has achieved this season and that is prevent Joe Jagger and Phil Bryant from scoring for Batelians. Leeds City remains second after an important win.
Old Collegians III 0 Old Centralians III 2
Another good display form Cents that was needed following a very good Collegians first half. Cents dominated the second period but the case for Collegians was not helped by the injury to Richard Brownhill. See Cents detail.
Old Thornesians III 3 Old Modernians V 1
Jamie Lovelace gave Mods V the lead but teams on level terms by the break. A belting game and both sides agree superbly refereed. Steve Buckley, Lee Tintor and, from the bench, Neil Thompson all shooting straight for Thornesians III.
Shadwell III 6 Wheelwright OB III 0
The Shadwell march continues. Better form Wheelwright III. Clyde Wijnhard 2, Claudio Diclemente, Andy Coffey, Vinnel Anderson and another whose name was lost in telephone conversation that sounded as if the caller was based in a decompression chamber. Clyde 13 goodies from 5 games.
St Bedes OB III 4 Old Centralians IV 1
Despite the loss of Danny Burke after some 30 minutes Bedes had a comfortable win. Graham Moseley, Kev Benson (pen), Bob Hume and George Nash on target. See Cents detail. Shadwell III tc be considered realistic contenders for the Hodgson??
