Re: Results for 30th Jan 10 - Stanningley lose 100% record to Medics

Old Collegians 3rds 1  Old Batel
ians 3rds 7

From the condition of the pithch it was touch and go weather this game should of been played , the 7-1 victory which keeps us 1 point of top spot makes us very pleased it went ahead.
With an unfamiliar line up reflecting 5 changes from last week a good start to the game was important , however with approx 15 mins gone Collegians struck first to make the score 1-0. With the sun shinning brightley in the eyes of the Batelians defenders a hopeful ball over the top wasn't cleared and the Collegians striker put the ball in the back of the net.

Despite playing uphill with the sun in our eyes Bats enjoyed the majority of the play and missed a number of chances due to over complicated play in front of goal , eventually tho the equiliser came and the interval was reached all square 1-1.

The second half was always going to favour Bats , not blinded by the sun , playing withe slope and playing a less complicated game the goals soon came. Six goals without reply made for an impressive score line and it could easily of been double figures with missed chances and 2 good penalty claims not given. Special metion must go to Rob Wilson who has at last realised he has a right foot scoring two this week and two last week with it (we may have to start calling him two footed soon) and to James Keen who had a great game and scored with a Beckham like strike from well inside his own half !! The other scorers were Mark Heseldine , Phil Bryant , Rob Boardman and Ady Hall with his first kick of the game after coming on as a sub for Mick Kitchen. Report by Tony shaw

Re: Results for 30th Jan 10 - Stanningley lose 100% record to Medics

Sandal Athletic 1 Old Collegians 3

A win that has been coming for a few weeks now with the team starting to settle down a little, with a few more familiar faces reappearing into the first team fold.

Sandal kicked off into the wind but with the sun behind them, and within seconds young Louis Wrafter had disposessed the Sandal defender and coolly slotted past the keeper into the bottom corner, a great start. Sandal started to get back into the game a little and were on top at times during the first half, helped mainly by our errors gifting them possession. A break down Sandal's left allowed them to whip a good cross in, and hesitation from the defence allowed their number 9, who had an excellent game up front on his own, to nod into the corner of the goal. 1-1 HT

In the second half without the sun in our eyes we seemed more confident, however Sandal kept coming and had a number of chances with through balls, with runners not being picked up, the efforts were kept out and it stayed 1-1. A substitution for Collegians saw Josh Westwood switch to right back with Elliot Mitchell coming on the left side of midfield, both started knocking the ball around well and saw the game turn in favour of Collegians. Some good work down the left between Elliot and Louis found Sam Hayton well positioned in the area, who took the ball down well and played it beyond the keeper's grasp to make it 2-1. Sandal regrouped and put pressure on the Collegians goal, with the keeper up for a corner, which was claimed and calmly played upfield to Louis who ran clear and finished into the empty Sandal goal, 3-1, 3 points!!

Lets hope the momentum can keep going next week against Mods, shall be waiting to find out the score! We were that happy with the points we didnt even mind the icy showers after the game, and with spirit growing in the camp there is a belief we can pull ourselves out of the relegation mire in the second half of the season....!!

Re: Results for 30th Jan 10 - Stanningley lose 100% record to Medics

Bramley V Wortley- the usual local derby this time in seperate divisions for the first time in years. Hard pitch and at least a 1/3 of the 22 players all playing for the same sunday side (beech celtic) so it looked like a promising encounter. Bramley without centre half and goalkeeper so lads that came in did excellent to keep wortley out until 60th min. Earlier Bramley took a 2-0 advantage with Andy Horsman (pen) and Brad Whites 26th league and cup goal of the season. Wortley in the 2nd half were alot more attacking and had the run of the play including about 10 free kicks deep inside bramleys half. It wasnt until a 'ronaldinho 2002 world cup' style goal, outswinging free kick from thurlow gave wortley a incentive to go get another through fran 'diarra' lyon (incidentally from another free kick). No chances in ET so it was Pens and over in a blink of an eye bramley missed 2 and wortley scored all 4. Full time 2-2 Worley won 4-1 on pens. Welldone lads good luck in next round while Bramley will be back to the bread and butter league games.

Old Centralians IV 1 St Bedes OB III 2

Bedes remain seventh after they limped over the line against second to bottom Cents IV. Not a game to set the pulses racing with goals for Bedes III from Warwick French and Ken Doherty. See Cents news.

Nev, Ken Doherty is a 40 year old Irish snooker player who plays on lovely flat green surfaces.

Kev Doherty is a 56 year old Bedes veteran who plays at West Park on unsnooker like surfaces.
