Re: Fixtures 27 Feb 10 - Woodhouse to increase pressure on Wortley III

Senior A Predictions

Ealandians v Alwoodley
Lying second from bottom, Ealandians go into this on the back of last weeks draw with Trinity. They lost to St Nicks the week before and last won in the league in Jan, with a convincing win over Huddersfield. Their form since Xmas hasn’t been great and they will want to get all 3 points in this weeks reverse fixture (Alwoodley won the home leg with a narrow 1-0). Alwoodley haven’t had a great start to the year, losing at home to Trinity and then getting a draw at Wortley, and lie 2nd 10 points behind the leaders Stann. Their last 2 games have been promising and has seen them advance to the Terry Marflitt semis at the hands of FC Headingley and get to the quarter’s of the Leeds & District after a 3-0 home win last week. Hopefully the pitch is in good nick, which will allow both teams to get the ball down and play, promises to be a good game. ?-?

Leeds Medics & Dentists v Leeds University OB
Medics come into this game on the back of a cup exit at the hands of Beeston but before that, their form had been good defeating Bainbridge and getting a tight point in the draw with Trinity. Medics are fighting the cause to claw back Stann and a 2-1 win a couple of weeks back against them did their cause a world of good. They lie in 3rd only 2 points off Alwoodley with a game in hand. Uni lie 4th having played 12 games and have started the year with 2 wins (Elland & Hudds Am) and 2 losses (Gildersome & Stann). On their day they can beat anyone but which Uni team will turn up? A tight game ahead but the home side to nick it by the odd goal. 2-1 home win.

Stanningley OB v Trinity & All Saints OB
The leaders slipped up in their last league game, losing at home to Medics 2-1. Before that they had won 9 on the bounce and they are the divisional leading scorers, with 36 goals. Last week saw them put 5 past Shadwell to advance in the Terry Marflitt, eyeing a possible ¼ Final with Wortley, the winners going on to face Alwoodley. Trinity’s form this year has been mixed, getting a good win at Alwoodley, losing to Hudds and then 2 tight draws against Medics and Ealandians last week. They seem to suffer with player availability and when fielding their first 11, they are a side that contests well. If this is the week with their strongest 11, can see a possible upset, 2-3.

St Nicholas v Huddersfield Amateur
St Nicks lie bottom with only 2 wins all season, against their rivals at the bottom Ealandians & Trinity. Last week was an excellent result in the Leeds Senior Cup and they will hopefully take some confidence into this week’s game. They also won last time out in the league 4-3 v Ealandians which may suggest they have turned the corner? Hudds Am were unlucky by all accounts last week to go out of their Cup aet, but that little bit extra game time might just do them the world of good. St Nicks have played very little football since the season began and may be caught cold by a strong Hudds team. Hudds have won 1 and lost 2 in the league since the turn of the year and will hope to put pressure on the teams above them by getting all 3 points on Sat. With conditions not great, can see an ugly home win. 3-1.

Re: Fixtures 27 Feb 10 - Woodhouse to increase pressure on Wortley III

div 5 preditions
alwoodley 3rds vs thornesians 3rds   alwoodley one of the best teams we have played this year at passing the ball but on recent form would have to go for a 2 2 close game
leeds city res vs shadwell 3rds not played shadwell yet but leeds city got a very tight well run team so would have to go with them just 2 1
cents 4ths vs cents 3rds would have to hope for a away win for our sake in league table but cant see it happening so will go with 4 3
old mods 5ths vs huddersfield 4ths  cant see any result but hudds win 2 4
st bedes 3rds vs wheelwrights 3rds can see this being a tough game and ending in a draw 3 3

Re: Fixtures 27 Feb 10 - Woodhouse to increase pressure on Wortley III

All games kick off at 2.30pm

Yorkshire Old Boys’ Shield – Rd 3

Match to be concluded on the day - extra time and penalties if required

Gildersome Spurs OB v Old Modernians

Fingers crossed that rian does not bring about the posponement of this fixture. The proud holders take on thrice winners and twice runners up Mods. Modernians had a hard opening round game with Humber Prem Withernsea that they won 5-2 after extra time. They then beat Colton Academicals 6-3 and as usual go into the match confident of aquitting themselves well. Defensivley they have shone in Senr B this season but last week they lost to FC Headingley 5-3 in the Leeds Senior Cup after staging a late raly to force extra time. Gildersome defeated Tritty 2-0 in the first round and then won a hard game at St Nicholas 3-2 in Round 2. Currnet form suggest Spurs should win this one and then face Ealandians in the semi-final with Spurs producing their best form only a fortnight ago at Batelians in the Marflitt. Stil in the Wheatley Cup there mayh well be some aching limbs at Spurs before the season closes.  Expect Mods defence to revert to form and be difficult to penetrate but looking for Spurs 2 Modernians 0 although Modernians have shown over the years a tendancy to raise thier game for this competition. Should be an entertaining afternoon.

Wortley v Beeston OB

On paper this should be a reasonably easy game for Senr A Wortley against Div 2 leaders Beeston althoug the latter are in top form in what is a local derby. Wortley have beaten Eddie Beadle the East Riding Amateur League club 3-2 and then won after extra time and penatlies at Bramley Juniors. Saw Wortley play Crossgates WMC when Wortley lost 4-1 in the 2nd round of the Leeds Senior Cup and it is clear they do miss the suspended Ash Crowther and Dale Dodsworth with Barry Danby also missing the same match. Thus the numerous chances created were not converted. Sure that wil be remedied this weekend. Beeston on the other hand are scoring goals for fun with Damon Harder and Richard Dunbar clinical in front of goal. Beeston beat Div 2 close rivals Grangefield 4-2 in the first round with East Ardsley meeting Beeston in 7-0 full flight in the second round. Both teams play thier ame at a high tempo and both pride themselves on their quality football. Going for Senr A Wortley to take this one 3-1.

Re: Fixtures 27 Feb 10 - Woodhouse to increase pressure on Wortley III

Division 5

Alwoodley OB III v Old Thornesians III 3-2 Thornes back to normal side
Leeds City OB Res v Shadwell III 3-2 From a personal view would prefer Shadwell to win even though as a bunch of lads I prefer the Leeds City boys. Personal views aside I think the defence of Leeds City will be resolute and they will (Surprisingly) win by the odd goal
Old Centralians IV v Old Centralians III 1-5 Might not be on due to deterioration of playing surface
Old Modernians V v Huddersfield Amat IV 2-4 Hudds to take it with superior passing game
St Bedes OB III v Wheelwright OB III 4-3 Wheelwright obviously improved but Bedes are quite a strong outfit

Good Luck to all.........And be careful out there !!!!!!!!!

TRINITY RESERVES V SHIRE - MATCH OFF

School not happy for us to play at St Theresa's and not possible to reverse the fixture I'm afraid, so our game is off.

Re: Fixtures 27 Feb 10 - Woodhouse to increase pressure on Wortley III

A game that is definitely ON is that between Leeds Medics and Leeds University in Senior A.

Also ON is the Shield fixture between Wortley and Beeston OB (to be played at Western Flatts)
