During his four seasons in charge of the YOBL Rep XI we watched Mark Reid get the most out of a talented bunch of players. Mark remains in charge of the Cup and Rep Committee so the appointment will be footabll based but still demand organisational flair.
The post is open to anyone with the basic requirements being enthusiasm and a selfless attitude to the job. A record of success at club level within our legaue is important and a knowledge of the leading players within our League is essential. The Admin back up team within YOBL is superb but it will be incumbant for the new manager to appoint his/her assistant. This choice has to be made with care and a blend of attributes is ideal.
Ideally the freshly appointed Rep XI manager would be one who managed/played for a team in Senior A. There is little doubt coaching experience would be an added bonus. The freshly appointed Rep XI supremo would also receive reports from secretaries/managers and committeee members not only on Senior A players but also on players in Senior B and Division 1. The new manager can then prepare the way for any friendly game he feels the team requires. The appointment needs to be made soon although, unlike last year, there is not the pressure of an FA NLS game to be played in September. Without going into too much detail there will be three big Rep XI games this season. The first will be our Annual game with the York Leeper Hare League, the second probably in the FA NLS Cup and finally against the Amateur Football Combination.
Thus the manager needs to have ideas on team bonding, modern and successful training methods and team development. We have touched on the ability to organise but whilst he will select the team with his assistant the responsibility as to who plays rest with the Manager. The manager must be a person quick to respond in a game when substitutions or system changes need to be made. The job is one that is just about the best in local football. It takes up many hours of your thinking time each week if done correctly and demands total dedication to the cause and that latter attribute is the one that is required by your assistant.
